The Type of Liquid affects cricket growth and reproduction

By Max, Louisa, and Jake 6J

February 13, 2009 - March 13, 2009

For this experiment we tested how did certain chemicals (Vinegar and Water) affect cricket growth and reproduction. our hypothesis was if the type of liquid affects cricket growth and reproduction.

Materials

10 small PetCo crickets

2 zilla cricket drink pillows

0.6 liters Fluker’s High calcium Cricket diet

150 ml water

3 plastic 0.47 liter containers and their tops

Sharp, pointy object

Sharpie

 Tape

Paper

50 ml of white vinegar

Procedure

1. Gather materials

2. Fill two containers with .12 liters potting soil each

3. label one container control and the other vinegar

4. soak 1 water pad in enough water to cover it

5. create water vinegar solution 50 ml of water 50 ml of white vinegar

5. soak 1 water pad in enough water-vinegar solution to cover it

5. let them be for five minutes

6. take them out and place them in the containers

8. put the vinegar solution in the container labeled

9. poke a lot of holes in the lids with the sharp, pointy object

10. put 0.005 liters of food in each container

11. put five crickets in each container, and put the lid on

12. repeat steps 4-5 and 10 every week, if necessary

13. take photos, and count the number of crickets every Sunday

Vinegar

Week 1

Week 2

Week 3

Week 4

Averages

5 crickets

3 crickets

0 crickets

About 10 baby crickets

11 adult crickets and 3 baby crickets

Water

5 crickets

5 crickets

3 crickets

1 adult cricket

about 10 baby crickets

16 adult

3 baby crickets

In this experiment we learned that vinegar is worse for crickets than water is. We also learned that crickets multiply very fast. We also learned that vinegar is really bad for the environment Finally we learned that baby crickets are much smaller than the adults (and unfortunately can escape through small holes).

Is this finished? I am not sure if I can put warm and cool feedback on it if it is not finished

Mr. Wilson said to so here it goes:
Warm feedback-
procedure and materials list is detailed
data table is good
lessons learned section is informative

Cool feedback-
some sections are titled, some are not
lessons learned section should be longeror have bullet points

warm:materials and procedure lists are great. Good data table. I like that you used the crickets again, except tested a different affect they might have on the plants.
cool: You should make the lessons learned better.
