The Type of Liquid Affects the Growth of Lima Beans

Ava and Kyra

Introduction If we change the type of liquid that we water to our plants, the height of the plants will grow taller.

Our experiment was very smelly. We used four different types of liquids to water the plants with. We used Orange Juice, Lemonade, Coke-a -Cola, and water. The Orange Juice grew alot of mold, so did the Lemonade. The Coke-a-Cola smelled really bad. The water didn't smell like anything. None of the plants grew.

Methods

•    About 6 or 7 cups of tap water

•    4   6 oz yogurt containers

•    4   6 oz Styrofoam cups

•    1 bottle of Snapple Lemonade

•    1 bottle of Coke-a-Cola

•    1 bottle of Orange Juice

•    1 Measuring cup

•    4 white lima beans

•    4 popsicle sticks

•    Lamp or Sunlight

•    4 ½  cups of  Great Garden... Soil

Procedure

1.    Gather Supplies

2.    Set up Styrofoam cups

3.    Poke one hole in each cup

4.    Set up yogurt cups

5.    Put Styrofoam cups in yogurt cups

6.    Pour one cup of Soil into each stirafone cup.

7.    Press lima beans about 1 inch deep

8.    Water each cup with a little bit of each different liquid

9.    Water each plant everyday

10.  Take picture everyday

11.  Repeat these steps, 1-10 everyday for four weeks

In my data, you can see that this experiment does not answere too many of our questions. There is one pattern, though in my data, nothing grew.

My results do not make sense, compared to my group member Kyra. Some of Kyra’s plants grew and some didn’t. In my and my other partners Aarons experiment, no plants grew.

The findings of the experiment could help a scientist could find out how to make more plants in the world or in areas were water is rarely found grow.

Lessons Learned

I learned that if you want to make a plant grow taller you should use a different type of liquid to see if it will grow different. Also that if you want make a plant grow, you can't give it sugar, like in orange juice, coke-a-cola, and lemonade. Meaning no matter what plant you try to grow with sugar will die, because with the sugar it is being  watered with makes it harder for the plant to do photosynthesis. If the plant is doing photo synthesis, and is also being watered with sugar, it will be "over sugared" and eventually die. Even if you water the plant with a substence with out sugar, but water it two much, it will die from to much liquid. The same thing will happen if you don't water it enough.

more lessons learned with explanations?
not a data table--need to organize the data into a table
oz is not metric

how would i switch OZ. What should i switch it two?
Also, i lost my camera, then found it again, but the by the time i found it, my plants had died. I might have one picture though. How would that work?
And 1 more thing, I am kinda confused about how to make the chart work is there some special trick, or something?
