The Type of Soil Calendula and Sweet Basil Plants Are Planted in Affects Their Height
Group Members: Jake, Louisa, and Max 6J
Dates of Experiment: 1/9/09-2/6/09
Our hypothesis for this experiment was that the type of soil affects the height of Sweet Basil, and Calendula. For this experiment, we planted six sweet basil seeds in each of 3 cups, one was in a cup with regular unfertilized soil, another was in a cup that was filled with unfertilized soil and had 4 worms in it, and the last one was planted in fertilized soil. We did the same set up with calendula. Our results showed that un-fertilized soil was the best for growing both Calendula and Sweet Basil. Next came fertilized soil for basil and soil with worms for marigold. Lastly came fertilized soil for marigolds, and soil with worms for basil.
Materials:
8 Giant Canadian nightcrawlers
6 500 mL plastic cups
1400 mL of unfertilized soil
700 mL of fertilized soil
18 Calendula seeds
18 Sweet Basil seeds
Scissors
Camera
Sharpie
Measuring cup
Something to collect excess water
Procedure:
1. Gather Supplies.
2. Poke one hole in the bottom of each cup.
3. Label 3 cups marigold.
4. One marigold with fertilizer, with soil with worms, and with soil.
5. Label the three other cups basil.
6. One basil with fertilizer, one soil, and one soil with worms.
7. Put 350 mL of fertilized soil in 2 cups.
8. Put 3 marigold seeds one of the cups and 3 basil seed in the other.
9. Fill the other four cups with 350 mL of plain soil.
10. Put 4 worms each in two of cups with plain soil.
11. Put 3 marigold seeds and 3 basil seeds in the two cups with worms.
12. Put 3 marigold seeds and 3 basil seeds in the two cups with plain soil.
13. Put all of the 6 cups in the 10x14 glass dish.
14. Take pictures every Monday.
15. Water each cup with .5 mL of water every monday

You misspelled "different" so I changed the name of the page. If you have a link on the frontpage to this page, then it no longer works. Delete the old link and do it again.

Warm: Good introduction. I've never heard of calendula, interesting choice. It's cool that you incorporated an animal and completely changed the experiment from the last one.
cool: You need a lessons learned section
